Best-known for his 1970 hit "Spirit in the Sky," singer/songwriter Norman Greenbaum was born November 20, 1942, in Malden, MA. He began his musical career while a student at Boston University, playing area coffeehouses before relocating to the West Coast during the mid '60s where Greenbaum subsequently formed a series of short-lived acts before finally returning to his solo career in 1968. A year later he issued his debut LP, Spirit in the Sky, with the Top Three smash title track, which sold some two million copies. In 1972 he retreated from music to focus on his California dairy farm, but returned to show business during the mid-'80s in a managerial capacity, also promoting a number of concerts.

Fabulous music
Well, someone from Malden has done well! Nice going Norm.
I first heard this track in 1998 when I checked out the "the Best of..." CD from the King County Library in Washington state.😎 One of my faves! I think Canned Ham is your sexiest jam❤
The thing about being different is ya have to be it natural. You just can't "do" different ... it comes from someplace deep inside and you just let it out. Being weird is sort of the same thing. People can spot it if you are trying to be different. Brother Norm, you were different from the word go, no doubt about it. The late '60s was a great time, well, except for Vietnam and stuff like that, but you and guys like Sebastian and the Dead and all the rest made it a LOT better. Thanks!
Hooray for the chickens 🐓
So glad you are here on youtube, looking forward to watching.
I remember emailing Norman, some years back, asking about theological choices of the lyrics of his famous song. Nice to see him in person here!
Waiting to hear the story behind "Japanese Silky" . . . and a rarity I found, "Nancy Whiskey". I've enjoyed the podcast!!
What a treat ,thanks Norman!
Aguante Norman, saludos desde Guatemala! 🇬🇹
Great Podcast! Thanks for being on the planet and having one of the biggest most iconic hits of all time. Best wishes with the Podcast. I'm subscribing and following!
The funniest part of this song is that Norman Greenbaum is Jewish and only wrote this song to have a hit.
first part is true but the feeling is real
Still a neat, catchy song. He’s still getting royalties for it.
@@wilstjb3122and good on him for that!
